Aerator vs Livewell pump? I am thinking about buying the Piranha pump they sell at Boat US. It is a simple pump with a single inlet & outlet. I have an idea of how I will install it, but if anyone has some photo's or a diagram of how it is properly done, i would greatly appreciate it. Here's what I'm thinking.. The thru- hull gets drilled through the bottom of the hull, toward the transom. Does the pump have to be perfectly vertical?
Should i get the pump with the angled thru- hull? So, the inlet is in.. Now water is pumping in, how does it get out? My thought here is to fabricate an upside down T out of 1.
The horizontal section at one end would be sealed to the port in the bottom of the well, the other end would have a screw- on end plug. The vertical sectioin would extend up to a few inches below the lid, where i would either drill a bunch of holes in the sides of the pipe, or leave the top open and add a screen filter. So the water would be maintained at a certain level. The water that would pour in at this level would run down the vertical piece to the horizontal piece, and right out the existing port. To drain the well, i would have to unscrew the end- plug.
